AC/DC's Bon Scott Honored on 80th Birthday

Rock fans recently gathered across the globe to commemorate the 80th birthday of the legendary AC/DC frontman, Bon Scott. From the streets of Scotland to the heart of New York City, the milestone was marked by music, art, and a shared appreciation for Scott's enduring influence on rock and roll.

In New York City, the third annual Bon's Birthday Bash took place on July 9 at The Cutting Room. As the only U.S. tribute event authorized by the Scott estate, the evening featured high-energy performances by vocalists including Corey Glover of Living Colour and Steve Brown of Trixter. Hosted by radio personality Terrie Carr, the event also included a pop-up gallery showcasing rare, previously unseen images of Scott captured by renowned photographer Steve Joester.

Earlier in the year, from May 1-3, the community of Kirriemuir, Scotland, hosted Bonfest 2026. This milestone weekend celebrated both Scott's 80th birthday and the 20th anniversary of the festival. Organized by the charity DD8 Music, the event drew international crowds to Scott's hometown. Highlights included a meaningful pop-up exhibit in the original Scott family bakery and a procession recreating the iconic It's A Long Way To The Top music video, featuring a special appearance by Scott's longtime friend, Gabby.

These celebrations coincided with the launch of AC/DC's 2026 Power Up North American tour, which began on July 11. Born in Scotland and raised in Australia, Bon Scott defined the early era of AC/DC with his unmatched swagger and voice from 1974 until his passing in 1980. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, Scott continues to be recognized as one of the greatest frontmen in music history, leaving a legacy that still resonates with new generations of fans.
