Taylor Momsen, the lead singer of the rock band The Pretty Reckless, recently shared details about their upcoming fifth album, Dear God, set to release on June 26 through Fearless Records.
Momsen explained that creating the album was a unique challenge. The band recorded it in between their tours with rock legends AC/DC, which she compared to her early career days when she juggled many tasks while making their first album, Light Me Up. This meant a lot of "split brain" work, where she had to switch between writing and recording new music and performing older songs on tour. While touring was amazing, Momsen admitted it was tough to pause creative momentum. Now, she's relieved to have finished the album and eager for fans to hear it.
When asked if constant touring changed the album's sound, Momsen said no, but it did make the recording process take longer. She writes songs completely before entering the studio, so the goal was simply to bring the sounds in her head to life.
Momsen also revealed how personal Dear God is. She feels it truly represents her, describing it as "ripped directly out of my diary." She believes it's their most authentic work yet, covering many emotions and styles. She's incredibly proud and excited for people to hear it and for the band to play the new songs live.
The album features the chart-topping single For I Am Death and the new single When I Wake Up. Momsen described When I Wake Up as a song about hazy nights and trying to escape reality, sometimes with good outcomes, sometimes not.
The Pretty Reckless will support Dear God with a headlining tour across North America and Europe. This follows a busy year for the band, including performances at the MusiCares Gala honoring Mariah Carey and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with SOUNDGARDEN, plus a successful holiday EP.
